Something else that really bothers me is how many times Boo was given metacam after a procedure. His dental and tooth extraction (Lower canine) was the last time he received metacam, and I even have a friend who's vet gives her syringes of it to take home after a procedure. His dental was a few months before he was diagnosed, which he's probably had CRF for awhile, his genes, I don't know, but I know I will request metacam never be used on any of my cats again. J

'Kaika's mom again: Yeah, metacam is controversial for cats. I've read of cats going into renal failure after getting an injection. Did Boo have bloodwork done prior to his dental? If he had CRF prior, it should have shown up then in his test results. I also read that vets in Canada are using an alternative pain medication for cats, but that it may not yet be approved in the US.

I live in Central North Carolina and take care of 6 cats. 4 outside 'wanderers' and 2 indoor, Boo and Chickster. Boo is 13 years old and Chickster is 1-2. I'd rather be at home with my cats than anywhere else. I devote most of my time to Boo and try not to accidentally ignore Chickie Sue. I am starting to notice they can be a lot like children sometimes! It is not always an easy job!
