Just stopped in to meet Boo. We live in western NC and use a holistic vet to treat our 19 year old Chica with CRF - she has had it for 4 years and is doing great. We use a product called Feline Renal Support by Standard Process. Our vet in Boone does phone consults and has a web site - animalsnaturally.org. If I can help in any way, let me know. I rescue ferals and hosue them in a forever home so don't have spare dollars to donate but have lots of info!

'Kaika's mom here: Just looking in on Boo again. Sending good vibes for good results at the vet. About the itching, I found the following info on Tanya's CRF site:
Itching
If allergies are ruled out, this can be a uraemic itch, i.e. caused by the levels of toxins in the blood. If your cat is scratching a lot or grooming excessively, consider this possibility. Itching is fairly common in cats with high phosphorus levels, particularly if the high phosphorus levels go untreated, resulting in secondary hyperparathyroidism. Alternatively itching may indicate a Vitamin B deficiency or be a sign of an essential fatty acids deficiency. Occasionally itching can be a sign of liver problems; if this is the case, your cat's bloodwork should show elevated liver values.
Hope your vet can solve the itching puzzle. I would also like to agree with the Wildcat Woods cats: Standard Process makes excellent supplements for both humans and pets, and it might be worth checking it out for Boo.
No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won’t make you cry.

Boo's Ma
I live in Central North Carolina and take care of 6 cats. 4 outside 'wanderers' and 2 indoor, Boo and Chickster. Boo is 13 years old and Chickster is 1-2. I'd rather be at home with my cats than anywhere else. I devote most of my time to Boo and try not to accidentally ignore Chickie Sue. I am starting to notice they can be a lot like children sometimes! It is not always an easy job!
